Do Detox Diets offer any Health Benefits?

Detoxification of the body is becoming quite the craze. Many people undergo this treatment in order to feel better and clean out their bodies. Detoxification is a way of removing toxins from the body. Rumor has it that certain food we consume leaves traces of harmful substances which accumulate in our bodies over the years. These toxins if left untreated may cause headaches, nausea, fatigue and even certain illnesses. However, the truth is, there is no evidence that proves any of these allegations.

Detoxification is a very harsh treatment, that is why it is encouraged that prior to undergoing the process one should speak with a doctor. During this process, the body is deprived of numerous nutrients, vitamins, and minerals which nourish our bodily organs. However, in spite of its exhausting effects on the body, detox has left some people feeling lighter, more energetic and more focused. Researchers believe that the calorie restriction which one undergoes during detox can lead to heightened feelings of psychological well being. This means that you may not necessarily be healthier but your mind will encourage you to believe that you are.

But if you are a strong believer in detoxification, there are certain alternative options. You do not have to necessarily starve yourself for days, leaving your body without the proper nutrients. You can simply consume a healthier, all natural diet. Eat more fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and lean sources of protein and unsaturated fats. Eating these foods will make you feel lighter without the unnecessary fatigue during the process. Also add regular exercise and stress reduction techniques into the mix and you will be on your way towards good health.
