Many of us are used to seasonal parties and get-togethers. They are yearly traditions
which usually occur around Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving, Easter, 4th of July, the
super bowl and birthdays. Majority of us tend to incorporate certain traditional beverages
during these seasonal holidays. For some of us it’s just a means of adding to the festivities
while for others it’s a part of a family tradition. One great example of an honored tradition
is eggnog on Christmas. For some people, it may as well not be Christmas without it! However,
in spite of their long time honored tradition, a lot of these drinks are laden with calories
and let’s admit it, how many of us have just one?
Here are a few numbers to give you an idea of the calories in one serving. Alcoholic eggnog (8 oz) has approximately
394 calories, whereas, nonalcoholic eggnog has about 343. Our winter time hot cocoa made with whole milk has 190
calories (8 oz). Irish Cream Liqueur, another holiday favorite, has a shocking 407 calories in just 4 ounces. A frozen
margarita, which is a birthday favorite, has about 181 calories per 8 ounces. So if you are concerned about your weight
you should be aware of the high calorie count in these beverages.
Some less troubling, weight loss friendly alternatives include non alcoholic wine. This particular beverage has only 9 calories. A 5 ounce wine spritzer has only 72 calories, while a 4 ounce glass of champagne has 99 calories. Champagne punch is yet another favorite, with only 74 calories per 4 ounces. So if you are looking forward to your next holiday party, be sure to limit your calorie laden drink intake or try some of the weight loss friendly alternatives.
